“Girl Who Cried Monster” is a great book with an enjoyable twist. It follows a girl named Lucy who loves to scare people with pranks and talk of monsters. One day after staying after the close at the library, Lucy sees the librarian turn into a praying mantis type monster creature.
OF COURSE, no one believes her when she starts talking about it. After several days of spying on the librarian to get proof Lucy’s monster invites him over for dinner and reveals the family is also monsters and they eat him for dinner.
I loved this book, sure, most of it was Lucy hiding, spying, and people not believing her, but I enjoyed the twist of a familiar story.
We all know “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” but what if the boy turned out to be a wolf himself? It was very imaginative.
The one thing I didn’t understand was why the parents didn’t believe Lucy or why she cared so much. She was happy when they were gonna eat him but only a few hours before, she wanted to reveal him (and was also afraid of him).
Those two things aside, this was one of my favorites.
4 out of 5 and recommended to everyone who enjoys reading children’s horror.
