“The Ghost Next Door” stood out to me as one I remembered enjoying as a child and I was right. This one has a great twist.
“The Ghost Next Door” starts with Hannah, a 12-year old girl, being bored during summer vacation. Her brother isn’t entertaining and her friends were writing back. She dreams of her bedroom being on first and wakes to meet Danny, a boy who lives next door. She doesn’t know him, he’s shy and so she OBVIOUSLY thinks he’s a ghost…obviously. After spying on Danny for a bit she confronts him on being a ghost, and he denies it…obviously.
Danny puts his hand through Hannah’s chest and discovers SHE’S the ghost!
This part confused me big time. A dark figure appears and says Danny must die to take his place in the spirit world and allow the dark figure to live?????? Anyway, Hannah saves Danny from a house fire and goes to heaven.
I enjoyed reading this and I really didn’t know Hannah was the ghost. This is one of the few Goosebumps books that has real death in it and it’s sad but I liked it and really feared for Danny and Hannah.
4 out of 5 stars
What was with that ghost figure’s motive????
