Review: Animal Farm

Animal Farm is the most thought-provoking piece of literature I have ever read, even as a child. The animals of Manor Farm revolt after being mistreated by the farmers. After becoming independent from the humans they set one rule: all animals are equal.

Yet, as the story progresses we soon see some animals are “more equal” than others.

Orwell uses the animals as a metaphor for the Russian Revolution. It shows how people’s fight for freedom can quickly morph into a power play as chaos develops.

This novel goes beyond addressing the Russian Revolution, it speaks of all revolts there have been and will ever be.

Animal Farm is a brilliant politically minded piece that can easily be read in one sitting.

4 out of 5 stars.
